Melaya dresses are not the prettiest in my opinion, but this thing beats all:

    Was this described as melaya dress? Because to my eyes, this looks more like a fellahi dress ( for example here http://zeot.ch/Bilder/Anlaesse/Expedition07/Fellahi2.JPG ). Fellahi dresses are typically very bright coloured and loosely fitting, whereas melaya dresses are shorter and typically figure hugging (http://www.bellydanceplus.com/photos/carolinelabrie/melaya-royalblue1-detail.jpg)

    So as a fellahi dress, this costume is not that bad, though neckline design is quite clumsy, and portpotions are little off.
