It's in burlesque belly dance style, which is a fusion of burlesque dancing and belly dance. It incorporates theatrical elements and a bit of comedy into belly dance for a captivating style. Burlesque dancing is a strip tease routine, but burlesque belly dancers do not strip - instead they tend to wear very sexy victorianesque costuming, with ostrich plume accents and lots of lace.
I'm not fond of the spirit of this blog. Some of it is funny, some of it is very true, but it's mean, and some of it is downright hateful. The belly dance community is for the most part full of open and accepting people. We are goddesses of all shapes and sizes, from many walks of life, and with many different personal penchants. There is no single "right way" to belly dance - there's traditional cabaret from many different countries, there's ATS, there's tribal fusion, there's bollywood belly dance, the list goes on and on.
Costuming is an evolutionary process. I'm a costume designer, and near the start of my career, I designed a few things for myself that I hope never surface in pictures on the internet! I'd still never make fun of another costume designer who might be a bit newer to the world of dance than I am.
If I were you, I'd either stick to things tagged "belly dance" that are blatantly, obviously not for belly dancers, or I'd totally rethink the purpose of this blog.
I'm going to take this picture down since it offends you, no worries :)
We are all entitled to our own opinions and I like people commenting on posts. I only posts things that are up for sale, unless I just find them very beautiful and well, in my opinion 'what are they thinking' can also be in a positive light. Those costumes are listed as 'beautiful costume' and sometimes other people find them ugly (sometimes I can have a tacky taste LOL). Well, opinions differ :) I also have ones that are listed as 'what is your opinion of this one?' I will never post creations by students, only by vendors on the net.
Note: problem is that all of these costumes are send to me by email and I am not always able to verify where they come from.
Plus I have listed my own bad creations as well, just to be fair. I have a hideous skirt I hope to dig up soon (somewhere packed in a box when moving) and I will post it up here because I like to poke a bit of fun at my own mistakes.
This blogs is absolutely not meant to be taken serious!
This costume was made by a friend of mine...
